Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light, pale, and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until just combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, and mix until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
