Equipment

  • oven
  • 1-quart baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • measuring spoons
  • measuring cups
  • knife
  • cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened, for greasing
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously grease the inside of a 1-quart baking dish with the softened butter.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, kosher salt, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are just set around the edges but the center still jiggles slightly when you gently shake the dish.
  • Remove the dish from the oven and let it stand for 5 minutes; the eggs will continue to cook from the residual heat and become fully set.
  • Garnish with the chopped fresh chives and serve immediately directly from the baking dish.

Notes

Let the dish stand for 5 minutes after baking; the eggs will continue to cook from the residual heat and become fully set.
