Ingredients
  

Crust and Topping

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled

Filling

  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and finely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two opposite sides for easy removal.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir with a fork until the mixture is thoroughly combined and crumbly. The mixture should hold together when pinched.
  • Press about two-thirds of the oat mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust. Spread the finely chopped apples in an even layer over the crust.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the apples. Sprinkle the remaining one-third of the oat mixture over the caramel and apples, creating a crumbly topping. Sprinkle the flaky sea salt evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges. Place the pan on a wire rack and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan, about 2 hours, before slicing into squares.
