  • measuring spoons
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • spatula
  • paper or plastic bag
  • baking sheet

Ingredients

Cereal Base

  • 9 cups crispy rice cereal squares

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Pour the 9 cups of crispy rice cereal into a very large, heat-safe mixing bowl and set it aside.
  • In a medium, microwave-safe bowl, combine the 1 cup of chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of peanut butter, and 1/4 cup of butter. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted.
  • Stir the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture until it is fully incorporated.
  • Pour the warm chocolate sauce over the cereal in the large bowl. Using a large rubber spatula, gently fold and stir until every piece of cereal is evenly coated. Be careful not to crush the cereal.
  • Place the 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar in a large, clean paper or plastic bag. Add the coated cereal, seal the bag tightly, and gently shake until the cereal is thoroughly covered in sugar.
  • Spread the finished Puppy Chow in a single layer on a large baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper and allow it to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes before serving or storing.

Notes

Be careful not to crush the cereal when mixing. Allow the mixture to set completely before serving or storing.
