Equipment

  • oven-safe skillet
  • oven
  • spoon
  • pot
  • strainer
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • measuring spoons
  • measuring cups

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 jar marinara sauce 24-ounce
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 ounces dried egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup sour cream at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more, until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook, breaking the meat up with a spoon, for 6-8 minutes until the beef is fully browned and no pink remains. Carefully drain off any excess fat from the skillet.
  • Pour the marinara sauce and 1 cup of water into the skillet with the beef. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • While the sauce simmers, cook the egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain the noodles well and return them to the pot. Stir in the room-temperature sour cream until the noodles are evenly coated.
  • Gently fold the sour cream-coated noodles into the beef and sauce mixture in the skillet until everything is well combined. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  • Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly spotted with brown. Let the casserole stand for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

Notes

Add mozzarella or feta for a cheesy twist. Let dough rise in a warm oven (off) for faster proofing.
