Equipment

  • paper towels
  • large skillet
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large raw shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Pat the shrimp completely dry with paper towels and season both sides with kosher salt and black pepper. This helps achieve a good sear.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Continue cooking for 3-4 minutes, swirling the pan occasionally, until the butter foams and turns golden brown with nutty aromas.
  • Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the brown butter and cook for 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high and add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 2 minutes without moving them to develop a golden sear.
  • Flip each shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes until they are opaque and firm to the touch.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, and fresh parsley. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly in the sauce.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry thoroughly for a better sear. Swirl the pan occasionally while browning butter to prevent burning.
