Equipment

  • cutting board
  • knife
  • serving board
  • small bowls
  • ramekins
  • cheese knives
  • spoons

Ingredients

Cheeses

  • 4 oz Brie cheese or other soft-ripened cheese, at room temperature
  • 4 oz Aged Gouda cheese or other firm, nutty cheese, at room temperature
  • 4 oz Sharp Cheddar cheese or other semi-hard, tangy cheese, at room temperature
  • 4 oz Gorgonzola Dolce cheese or other creamy blue cheese, at room temperature
  • 4 oz fresh Goat Cheese (Chèvre) at room temperature

Accompaniments

  • 4 oz fig preserves or fruit jam
  • 4 oz raw honey

Instructions

  • Remove all selected cheeses from their packaging and place them on your serving board or a clean plate at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving. Allowing cheeses to warm slightly enhances their flavor and texture, making them more enjoyable to eat.
  • Choose a clean, flat serving board made of wood, slate, or ceramic. Consider the number of cheeses and accompaniments you plan to serve to select an appropriately sized board.
  • Begin by strategically placing the larger or firmer cheeses, such as the Aged Gouda and Sharp Cheddar, on different sections of your board. Leave space between each cheese to allow for slicing and to prevent flavors from mingling.
  • Next, add the Brie, Gorgonzola Dolce, and Goat Cheese. Place the Brie wheel whole or slice it into wedges. For the Gorgonzola, you can cube it or leave it in a chunk for guests to crumble. The Goat Cheese can be served in its log form or crumbled.
  • Place small bowls or ramekins containing the fig preserves and raw honey around the cheeses. These elements not only add visual interest but also provide complementary flavors to the cheeses.
  • Provide a dedicated cheese knife for each distinct type of cheese to prevent flavor cross-contamination. Include a small spoon for the fig preserves and another for the honey.
  • If desired, you can add some fresh fruit like grapes or apple slices, or a handful of nuts like Marcona almonds, to fill any remaining spaces on the board. Serve immediately, encouraging guests to explore the variety of flavors and textures.
