Hibachi Steak Marinade

  • Author: Julie
  • Total Time: 5 minutes (plus marinating time)
  • Yield: 1 cup marinade (for ~1 lb steak) 1x

Description

A great hibachi steak marinade is the secret to transforming a basic steak into a flavor-packed Japanese-style masterpiece. This marinade delivers that signature hibachi taste—savory, slightly sweet, with hints of garlic and ginger—right from your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk until well blended.
  2. Place steak in a zip-top bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it.
  3. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, up to 24 hours for maximum flavor.
  4. Cook marinated steak as desired—grill, skillet, or griddle.
  5. Serve with hibachi veggies, noodles, or shrimp for a complete meal.

Notes

Swap honey with maple syrup for vegan. Use garlic powder and ground ginger in place of fresh if needed. This marinade also works for shrimp or chicken.
